Another one of the "From the Past" things we did on August 1 was make a Rolling Marble background. Yes - the kind of marbles some of us played with when we were little. Remember shooting marbles, cats eyes, etc.?
We didn't two any make 'n takes with this technique - I just explained it. I did two sample cards to show - both using Mellow Moss reinker. One was done on vanilla cardstock and the other done tone on tone -- on Mellow Moss cardstock. I think I like that one the best. The stamp used is from the Eight Great Greetings set. When Laneah first showed us this technique, she used Mellow Moss, and I really liked that color. So that is why I chose to use Mellow Moss reinker and cardstock. The one with the tone on tone is one of my favorite cards of all done that day. And ---- it was not CASED. Helen created it!
Basically what you do is take a plastic case like your SU! stamp sets come in and, with removable tape, tape your cardstock on the top of the box. Then put 4 - 6 marbles in the bottom of the box. Then drop a drop of reinker in two different spots on the bottom of the plastic case. Then roll the marbles around so that they get ink on them from the two reinker spots. Then you flip the box over and either roll the marbles back and forth on your paper (which usually makes streaks) or shake the box vigoroulsy (which usually makes splashes like shown on these cards).
The plastic case I was using was almost exactly A2 card front size, so the marbles didn't go all the way to the sides of the paper - which was fine cause I cut it down to layer it, but I think in future I will use a bigger container.
Everybody there learned a lesson from Helen's experience -- hold the case tightly with your hand - with your hand over the side of the case where it opens. There was excitement during the lesson as I was shaking the case and it came open -- and I slung inked up marbles across the table. Thankfully no one got ink on them - I was horrified til I checked everybody out. Whew! It was good for a laugh!
